Correct grid file for ICON grib files
Added by Maik Gottschalk about 3 years ago
Hi Ralf,
following your valuable support given at
https://code.mpimet.mpg.de/boards/1/topics/8094?r=8095
I'm trying to decode ICON grib files obtained from
https://opendata.dwd.de/weather/nwp/icon-eu/
For ICON and ICON-D2 the relevant grid numbers can successfully be determined by 'sinfon' (26 and 47, respectively).
Unfortunately, for ICON-EU no grid number is returned.
I'd be grateful if you could point me in the correct direction on how to determine the corresponding grid number.

Read the following (https://code.mpimet.mpg.de/projects/cdo/embedded/index.html#x1-310001.4.3)
Someone must have made a grid file for this data. If they have not, you will have to make one yourself. Read all of section 1.4 (https://code.mpimet.mpg.de/projects/cdo/embedded/index.html#x1-190001.4) then read Appendix D (https://code.mpimet.mpg.de/projects/cdo/embedded/index.html#x1-909000D).

this is the official grid resource http://icon-downloads.mpimet.mpg.de/dwd_grids.xml
you should find the grid there if you have the right ID I think
more public information about ICON can be found here: https://code.mpimet.mpg.de/projects/iconpublic/wiki
