undocumented operator change_e5slm
Added by Christian Stepanek over 7 years ago
Dear all,
there is an undocumented operator (change_e5slm) that provides an update of ECHAM5 boundary conditions if one modifies the land sea mask. Newly created land points are then initialized with sensible values for the various variables in the ECHAM5 boundary condition file.
My question is: There does not seem to be an update of this operator for ECHAM6 (at least a dumb call of 'cdo change_e6slm' returns the error that such an operator does not exist). Can we safely use the operator change_e5slm also for adjustments of ECHAM6's boundary conditions to modifications in the land sea mask, or do the standard values for the boundary conditions provided with change_e5slm do not fit for ECHAM6?
Thanks for any ideas. Your input is appreciated.
Kind regards
Christian

Dear Christian,
The CDO operator change_e5slm can also process the ECHAM6 surface boundary files. ECHAM6 has introduced a the new surface field SLF (sea land fraction). This field will be not changed with change_e5slm.
I suspect a change of the SLM within the SLF should not cause any problems. Otherwise the SLF needs to be changed too.
Cheers,
Uwe
