Error (vlistInqVarGrid) : varID -1 undefined!

I got the following errors:
cdo delete,level=12500,17500 O3_era40_2001_2013_daily.nc test.nc Warning (pstreamDefVarlist) : Allocation of 0 bytes! [ line 996 file /tmp/xas/build/science_cdo_1.5.9_default_default/src/cdo-1.5.9/src/pstream.c ] vlistFindVar : varID not found for fvarID 0 in vlistID 32! vlistFindVar : varID not found for fvarID 0 in vlistID 32! Error (vlistInqVarGrid) : varID -1 undefined!
what should I do to handle this issue?

Thanks for this report! The warning message should never occur, I will fix it in the next release.
I can't reproduce the error message. Could you please attach an example file or try it with the latest CDO release?

In the mean time I could reproduce this problem. This is definitely a bug and will be fixed in the next CDO release (see Bug #4216).
