Can I use eca_pd operator with 3h precipitation amounts as an input file instead of daily precipitation amounts?
Added by Rilka Valcheva about 4 years ago
Dear CDO users,
I have data in netcdf format with 3h precipitation amounts. I would like to count the number of cases above a given threshold, let say 5 mm per 3h.
Can I use cdo eca_pd operator with 3h precipitation amounts as an input file instead of daily precipitation amounts?
cdo eca_pd,5 input.nc output.nc
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Rilka

hi Rilka!
AFAIK the operator expects daily data in order to compute in order to compute Precipitation days index per time period
. Technically you can use 3h-data, too. but the operators till works as if your 3-hourly input is daily input.
I am not 100% sure what you want tbh. If you still want to get precipitation days
you need to accumulate the 3-hourly data into daily data (cdo -daysum
is the way to go). In case you want to compute the number of consecutive 3-hourly-rain, you can use your input as-is.
