Conversion of RADOLAN Format

Hello,
I'm using CDO cdo-1.5.5-win32.
Trying to convert a RADOLAN RW file of DWD's Hydrometeorology using cdo -f nc copy <RADOLAN RW file> <file>.nc I get the message "Unsupported file type".
Did I use CDO correctly? If yes, are there plans to support the RADOLAN format?

Hi Stephan,
I don't think CDO support RADOLAN RW file format. So far CDO only support GRIB 1/2, NetCDF, SERVICE, EXTRA and IEG file formats. I suggest you to ask the DWD guys for conversion tools (e.g., -> NetCDF), and then you can use CDO for your statistical analysis. Nevertheless, you may request a "feature" (in the ISSUES section of this webpage) to support the RADOLAN file format (, and you may also upload a sample of the RADOLAN original data).
