cdo seasmean 4 timesteps or 5 timesteps?

I want to calculate the season mean for each year, however, when I have daily data for one year, I used cdo seasmean to get the seasonal mean, but I got 5 timesteps. I think it should be 4 timesteps, actually want I plan is to get the seasonal value (4 timesteps)for each year, Is here anyone can give some advice?

Hi,
As far as I know, there are 4 CDO seasons: DJF, MAM, JJA, SON. -> 4 timesteps but if you give one year data then I guess the first DJF won't be calculated since there is no D (for December) from last year - so most likely the five time-steps that you mentioned are JF, MAM, JJA, SON, and D. This is just my WILD guess! May be others can help you with more info/details.

I also want to calculate the monthly mean for each year, however, when I have daily data for one year, I used cdo monmean to get the monthly mean, but I got 13 timesteps instead of 12 timesteps, Is here anyone can give some advice?
