Too large time increment

I am facing a problem while in the yearmean file. On using the ncdump command, I get double time (time);
time:units = "seconds since 1949-12-01 00:00:00" ;
And the following error occurs on using grads,
sdfopen yearmean-JJAS-cosmo.nc
Scanning self-describing file: yearmean-JJAS-cosmo.nc
gadsdf: Time increment too large for 'seconds since' time units attribute. I would be very much grateful about the solution.

The CDO operator settunits changes the time units. Here is an example:
cdo settunits,minutes -yearmean ifile ofile
