using CDO??

Added by Josh Griffiths almost 9 years ago

Hello,

Initial disclaimer - Please try your best to ignore my ashamed lack of understanding regarding this tool.

Brief background - I am a biologist, using environmental netcdfs in my ecology project. I really need to combine my CDFs into one file. Can I do this easily? Well there seems to be a few options, none of which I can get to work. Matlab - no access etc.

So how do you install this tool? I have tried a few things, but most of this website is like reading another language. All I want to do is concatenate around 200 netcdfs into one file for use in Arcmap.

So, can anyone, bearing in mind the world of programming languages and coding is foreign to me - tell me how to install CDO on my computer? I have tried loads of things, all of which are above me, I downloaded something called cygwin (no idea what it is, or how to use it) - have tried various things in the command screen. Have downloaded various things from this website, but cannot figure any of them out. There must be an easier way? I do use R for some of my analysis, can this be used in R? I'm pretty novice at that too.

I know one argument might be 'if you don't understand it then you are in the wrong place' - but I think an alternate view is that there are probably loads of people like me who might need something like this, but just cannot quite fathom getting it working in the first place. There seems to be no user friendly netcdf concatenate tools around.
I know R has a cdf package, but as far as I can see it cannot concatenate.

Help appreciated,

Shortly after posting, I got CDO to work running from the cmd prompt using the windows download.
My mistake when trying to follow the long .gif which is available to assist people on this website, was that following the link to the downloads off that page I did not notice one of the d/l had the win32 suffix. Probably seems simple, but this is the level I am working at!
Thought I would post up here incase anyone else is having the same trouble.
