Problem with info operator

Hello,
I just began using CDO and with the first step I have a problem:
I want to see information of a file using the "info"-operator:
C:\Users\Gast>cdo info C:\Users\Gast\Desktop\ECV_SM_Combined\1979\ESACCI-SOILMOISTURE-L3S-SSMV-COMBINED-19790101000000-fv02.1
As a result I get:
cdo info: Open failed on >C:\Users\Gast\Desktop\ECV_SM_Combined\1979\ESACCI-SOILMOISTURE-L3S-SSMV-COMBINED-19790101000000-fv02.1<
No such file or directory
But the file exists..
Is there a mistake in the syntax? I really can't see why it doesn't work.
Can anyone help me please?

Meanwhile the error message is another:
"Unsupported file type (library support not compiled in)"
The file i want to open is a netCDF.
I'm using the windows version of CDO on Windows 7
Please help me solve this problem.
