Downscaling using CDO

Added by ZhongQing Tan over 10 years ago

Hi All,

I have few sets of sea level data from AOGCM (ECHO-G, MIROC3.2-hires, MRI-CGCM) and I want to downscaling them to a small region like Malaysia or Borneo island. Can CDO do the downscaling in order to get the higher resolution of that particular area?

Thanks,
Daniel

Hi,

There is no CDO operator for downscaling. However, you may be able to use the existing CDO operators for statistical downscaling. I would recommend reading the following paper [may be you know, but just in case] before doing so:

http://journals.ametsoc.org/doi/full/10.1175/1520-0442(1999)012%3C2256%3AAEOSAD%3E2.0.CO%3B2

If you simply want to remap to a higher resolution you could try the "remap" operators. See CDO doc Sec. 2.12 for more info: https://code.zmaw.de/embedded/cdo/1.5.9/cdo.html#x1-4940002.12

Cheers,
J.
