CDO

When calculating climate indices with CDO, the requirements for variable naming, units, data type, etc. are not really clear from the documentation. For example, if I want to calculate

cdo etccdi_cdd

do I need to have an input file that contains a variable

RR

with the units

mm d-1

What happens if there are also other variables in the file? Are they ignored?
